Breathe
Letter carving in Marble
At the point of burn out towards the end of 2021, I saw this cube and felt inspired after months of being in a creative rut. This was a big deal because I was at my lowest creatively, and wanted nothing to do with type. Stone carving has become sort of a breather for me, helps me to break away from the usual hustle.
Therefore, I chose the word “breathe” as a reminder to stop and be present in the moment.

The challenge of carving all the facades of this cube was the fun part for me. I used the narrowest chisel I had because of the fragility of the edges and the length of the word fitting inside this 3.5" cube.
The letters were taken from the lovely book I found at a flea market in Den Haag, purchased for 1€!
